We're happy to help.

Common questions

Which files can Tagfern open?

Markdown (.md, .markdown) and XML-based files, including .xml, .plist, .svg, .rss, .atom, .xsd, .xsl, .kml and .gpx. Binary property lists are shown as readable XML and saved back in binary form. You can also paste text from the clipboard on the start screen.

Will Tagfern reformat my Markdown?

No. Opening and saving a file without changes keeps it byte-for-byte identical, and when you edit, only the paragraphs, lists or tables you touched are rewritten.

Images in my Markdown file don't show up.

macOS only lets Mac App Store apps read files you've given them access to. When a document uses images from its folder, Tagfern shows an Allow Images… button above the page — click it and choose the folder once. Tagfern remembers your choice.

A recent file won't reopen.

If a file was moved or renamed, open it again with Open (⌘O). Files opened by double-clicking in Finder or dragging onto the window may need to be opened once with ⌘O to be remembered after you quit.

How do I export a PDF?

Click PDF in the toolbar or press ⇧⌘E.
